GRAND FORKS — The University of North Dakota unveiled its new Adidas hockey jerseys for the first time Monday night, revealing slight changes on the home white and road green jerseys and major changes to the road black jersey. The changes come as UND's entire athletic department moves to Adidas as its uniform provider. The black jersey, which UND has traditionally worn for big or must-win games, is more solid black than the most recent version. UND has removed the green shoulders and the striping across the bottom.
GRAND FORKS - Ralph Engelstad Arena will install in the offseason a new center-hung video board that it says will be the largest in college hockey. The video board will be 34 feet wide and 15.5 feet high -- roughly twice the size of the current video board (16 feet wide, 9 feet high). The main video board -- which will have four equal sides -- also will have video rings around the top and bottom of the main screen. Ralph Engelstad Arena says it will eclipse the center-hung video board at Wisconsin’s Kohl Center, which is currently the largest in college hockey.
PRIOR LAKE, Minn. - Dan Shrader weaves his garbage truck through the streets of Edina, listening to music from the 1960s and 70s. It’s the late morning. He’s been awake since 4:45 a.m., working since 5:30 and has made more than a hundred stops by now. At each one, he climbs out of the truck, picks up garbage cans and puts them on the truck’s dumping mechanism. There’s no automatic pickup that allows him to hide from the labor or elements. “Whether it’s 70 or minus-70,” Shrader says, “I’m getting out at every stop and touching every can.”
