Walz orders flags at half-staff in honor of DNR officer

ST. PAUL — In honor and remembrance of Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Eugene Wynn, Gov. Tim Walz has ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the state of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset on Friday, April 26.

Wynn was killed in the line of duty while executing a search and rescue mission in Cross Lake near Pine City on Friday, April 19. Wynn and a Pine County deputy were thrown from a boat into the water within minutes after leaving shore.

Wynn served for 18 years and leaves behind a wife and two children.

At the direction of the governor, Minnesota flies its flags at half-staff following the death of Minnesota first responders fallen in the line of duty, on the day of interment.

Wynn’s funeral has been set for noon Friday at the Pine City Civic Center, 1225 Main St. S., in Pine City. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the civic center.
