Website says UND among most affordable colleges
GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Great Value Colleges has named the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks one of the 50 most affordable colleges for international students.
"Students at the University of North Dakota are from 70 countries, and 79 percent of students receive some sort of financial aid," according to the website. "This makes the possibility that a student's tuition will go from nearly $18,000 to just over $10,000 much more likely."
Great Value Colleges, which monitors college affordability, came up with the list using data from the US News and World Report and tuition costs.
UND was ranked last in the "Midwest" category with the average international student receiving about $10,000 in grants and scholarships to put toward his nonresident tuition of about $18,000 per year.
"I don't know that we do anything in particular to make it affordable for international students, but the general things we do to keep it affordable, they benefit from," UND spokesman Peter Johnson said.
UND also has a partnership with the American College of Norway. Students who transfer to UND can receive tuition breaks.
