Minnesota native wins 'Jeopardy!' again
The answer: Winning money.
The question: What is Carlton, Minn., native Sam Kavanaugh doing on “Jeopardy!”?
Kavanaugh, 28, was in his fourth round on the popular game show Monday, July 15, after winning a total of more than $75,000 in three games last week.
He added to his winnings on Monday, easily advancing to a fifth round. He won $38,200, bringing his total to nearly $114,000.
Kavanaugh, the son of two Duluth schoolteachers and now a teacher himself in Minneapolis, said in an email that he has answered at least two Minnesota-centric questions.
One involved the state’s motto “L'etoile du nord” (“star of the north”). In the other, the answer was “1984 soundtrack album, the artist is dressed in the title color, aboard a motorcycle of the title color.” The question was “What is ‘Purple Rain’?”
He claims another correct response has a Minnesota connection, because the question he came up with was “What is a mosquito?”
“The whole experience with ‘Jeopardy!’ has been incredible, and so much fun,” Kavanaugh wrote in an email. “It has been something that I've been dreaming about and preparing for since I was a child, and it has exceeded expectations.”
Kavanaugh graduated from Carlton High School in 2009 and from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., in 2013.
