Empire Arts Center hires new program manager

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The Empire Arts Center has hired Nathan Haltiwanger as its new program manager.

Haltiwanger, a native of New York, comes to the Empire Arts Center with a master’s degree in Opera Performance and a wealth of experience in the performing arts and arts education. Empire Theatre Company audiences may also recognize Haltiwanger from the February 2019 production of Next to Normal. 

As the new Program Manager, Haltiwanger will oversee all aspects of the Empire Arts Center’s programming, including the Empire Theatre Company, The 1919 Lounge, the new upcoming film series to be launched in January 2020, and more. 

Beyond programming, Haltiwanger’s duties will also include box office, development and marketing assistance, and more. 

Hugo's promotes Richard Hilgemann at Jamestown, N.D. location

Hugo’s Family Marketplace has promoted Richard Hilgemann to the store director position of its Jamestown location.

Hilgemann has worked for Hugo’s for 19 years. He began as dairy manager and most recently was the assistant store director. He has 35 years of experience in the grocery business.

“Richards experience in the grocery industry and with various areas of Hugos will be a great asset to that store.” Said Kristi Magnuson Nelson, Hugo’s President/CEO. “The store and our associates will all benefit from his leadership and knowledge.”

Altru hires three

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Altru has made three new hires.

Dr. Brendan Boe, MD, PharmD has joined the obstetrics and gynecology team at Altru Health System. He specializes in abnormal uterine bleeding, endometriosis, menstrual disorders, moderate risk obstetrics, operative vaginal deliveries, vaginal hysterectomy and comprehensive contraception management.

Boe earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from North Dakota State University College of Pharmacy and Allied Sciences in Fargo, North Dakota. He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency from the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine.

Patrick Walsh, MD is also joining Altru in its advanced orthopedics department as a sports medicine provider. He specializes in non-operative musculoskeletal conditions.

Walsh earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan. He then completed his general surgery internship from Michigan State University in Lansing, Mich. Walsh went on to complete family medicine residency and sports medicine fellowship at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Ind.

Jenny Hayes, PA-C has joined the internal medicine team at Altru Health System.

Hayes earned her bachelor of science in biology pre-health sciences from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. She went on to complete her master of physician assistant studies program also from the UND.

Sydney Mook

Sydney Mook has been covering higher education at the Grand Forks Herald since May 2018. She previously served as the multimedia editor and cops, courts and health reporter at the Dickinson Press from January 2016 to May 2018.  She graduated from the University of South Dakota with a bachelor's degree in journalism and political science in three and half years in December 2015. While at the USD, she worked for the campus newspaper, The Volante, as well as the television news show, Coyote News. She also interned at South Dakota Public Broadcasting and spent the summer before her senior year interning in Fort Knox for the ROTC Cadet Summer Training program. In her spare time, Sydney enjoys cheering on the New York Yankees and the Kentucky Wildcats, as well as playing golf. If you've got an idea for a video be sure to give her a call!
