Catherine Dekkenga joins JLG Architects

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Catherine Dekkenga has joined the staff of JLG Architects, the Grand Forks, N.D.-based firm that expanded to Sioux Falls in 2016.

Dekkenga is a Sioux Falls native who previously worked for Architecture Incorporated for seven years.

She chairs the Levitt Shell Facilities Committee, serves on the executive board of the Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation and is a trustee at Central Church in Sioux Falls. She’s also the vice chair of the Citizen Advisory Committee for the Urbanized Development Commission of the South Eastern Council of Governments.

Dekkenga earned her Master of Architecture degree at Iowa State University.

Nurse practitioner joins CHI St. Alexius Health

BISMARCK, N.D. – Melissa Horner joined CHI St. Alexius Health Archway Mental Health Services as a family nurse practitioner. She specializes in mental health and general health problems, as well as promotion of health-maintaining behaviors.

Horner received her bachelor of science in nursing, master of science in nursing and doctorate of nursing practice from the University of Mary in Bismarck.

She is board-certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and holds her North Dakota Family Nurse Practitioner License with Prescriptive Authority. Horner was the American Association of Nurse Practitioner’s 2016 state award winner of Excellence in Clinical Practice.

Byrne promoted to finance director of Advanced Elements

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Advanced Elements, the holding company of AE2S (Advanced Engineering and Environmental Services, Inc.), AE2S Construction, AE2S Nexus, AE2S Operations and additional entities, has promoted Mitch Byrne to the newly created position of finance director.

Byrne is responsible for cash management and treasury functions and oversees consolidated reporting of the holding company and its wholly owned subsidiaries, tax strategy for the firm, and other firm-wide financial initiatives.

Byrne joined AE2S in 1997.  He brings 33 years of experience providing corporate accounting, public accounting and financial reporting and management, as well as operational, tax and administrative oversight, and business startup and support services for engineering, construction, real estate and plane leasing.

Byrne will continue to serve as the controller for AE2S and other affiliated companies.

Byrne holds certified public accountant, chartered global management accountant and certified design accountant designations.  He is a member of The American Institute of CPAs and the North Dakota Society of CPAs.

Since its inception in 1991, AE2S and the Advanced Elements companies have grown from two people to more than 300 in 17 offices located throughout North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana, Wisconsin and Utah.

Essentia Health welcomes physician assistant in Detroit Lakes

Physician Assistant Garrett Penton has joined the Family Medicine Department at the Essentia Health St. Mary’s – Detroit Lakes Clinic in Detroit Lakes, Minn.

Penton earned a master’s degree in physician assistant’s studies from Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
