Kittsona to open South Carolina store
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- A downtown Grand Forks clothing boutique for women will open a location in South Carolina.
Kittsona plans to open a store this month on King Street, a historic shopping district in downtown Charleston. Co-owners Nicole Johnson and Tessa Hiney have received multiple requests to open stores in cities across the country, but they fell in love with the arts and culture of the South Carolina city, Johnson said.
“We just felt like Charleston was a fantastic fit for us,” she said. “We feel like we are going to bring something unique and new to the area that they haven’t seen before.”
Charleston is the third city outside of North Dakota to see a Kittsona open. In 2011, the first store opened in downtown Grand Forks. It also has a Home Goods and Decor store and Creative Studio in the downtown area.
It later expanded to Fargo and Bismarck before announcing the opening of a Minneapolis branch in 2015. Another store opened in September in Austin, Texas.
Johnson and Hiney want the Charleston store to open by Labor Day weekend. In the coming weeks, there are plans to announce two more store openings in other cities.
The co-owners have turned down several offers because they want to be sure the locations are the right fit for their line of clothing, Johnson said.
“We only want to target the areas that are solid to the brand and that will bring something new to the area,” she said. “It is very important to us as we grow that we focus on quality over quantity.
