Ag Appreciation Day held at Sioux Empire Fair

The 34th Annual Ag Appreciation Day, sponsored by the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, Touchstone Energy Cooperatives and area businesses, is taking place today the Sioux Empire Fair. This morning’s rain will not dampen the day’s festivities.

Area farmers and ranchers who picked up tickets in advance will receive free admission to the Fair until 1 p.m. today. A complimentary lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in front of the grandstand at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. More than 3,000 local ag producers attended Ag Appreciation Day last year, and an equal number is expected today.

The event is held each year during the Sioux Empire Fair to honor farmers and ranchers and is a way to say “thank you” to producers for their tireless efforts in producing the food that we eat every day. More than 200 volunteers from area businesses will be on hand to help serve the meal.

Many businesses from the region provide the funds and volunteers to help cook and serve the grilled pork loin sandwich lunch. Touchstone Energy Cooperatives sponsors the complimentary gate admission and attendees can attend the fair free as long as they arrive at the fairgrounds before 1 p.m. Elected officials and candidates running for office are expected to be in attendance.
